Campground Host/Shady Creek Recreation Area:
Description: Shady Creek Recreation Area is located on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River approximately 10 miles east of Muscatine, IA and 16 miles west of the Quad Cities.
This position has many duties which include but are not limited to cleaning comfort stations and shower buildings, emptying garbage cans, cleaning campfire rings, picking up litter, trimming vegetation and painting. Cleaning of the comfort stations and shower buildings (1 waterborne restroom, 1 shower house and 2 vault toilets) will occur two to three days a week. The volunteer will also serve as a campground host answering visitors’ questions. This may occur as the volunteers are performing their duties or there may be times when visitors come to the volunteer’s campsite to report problems. The volunteer is expected to answer questions appropriately, ensure the visitor the problem will be fixed or reported and then report problems to project staff. If volunteering as a couple, 20 service hours each person per week (40 hours combined) is required. If volunteering as a single person, 32 service hours per week is required.
